BlasphemyBlasphemy by Douglas Preston

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Interesting book about scientists, Navajos, pitchfork wielding religious mobs, televangelists.

Takes place in Navajo territory, current time.

Very good story.

Winter MoonWinter Moon by Dean Koontz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really good book.

Cop (Jack McGarvey) gets shot up confronting drugged up punk in Los Angeles, losing the second partner in less than a year. Jack is in rehab for months, while his wife & child struggle with loss of income and general crap of LA.

The father of the Jack’s deceased first partner dies confronting an evil entity in rural Montana, and it turns out the father has willed his ranch (which he had inherited only 8 years earlier) to Jack.

Jack & family move to the ranch in Montana and over the course of a couple weeks have their own confrontations with the evil entity, resulting in a hair thin victory.

I believe Winter Moon is an extended metaphor for struggling with our own inner demon of hate and uncaring.

The Wheel of Darkness (Pendergast, #8)The Wheel of Darkness by Douglas Preston

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is like Death on the Nile on steroids, plus the Titanic. Great mystery, with Tibetan fantasy elements.

ImpactImpact by Douglas Preston

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Good book. Moves fast.

The ending was a little silly, but hey the trip getting there was great. Plus it all fits together.

(Goodreads needs a current mood button … because I don’t have the words for my mood right now)

Back to Impact…. it has a young adult aspect to it (20 something) that was entertaining to me… the situation of young people searching for their place in life.

The science was good and well developed.

For some reason it is a quick read, which is also ok w me.

ContagiousContagious by Scott Sigler

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a great book. It is also a sequel to Infected, also by Scott Sigler.

Doesn’t say anywhere on the book that Contagious is a sequel, but it is, and I’m glad of that.

There is one short line near the end which hints that there might be a further sequel. I know that Infected is being made into a film, so I would bet there is a tv series to follow that.

Essential plot line is that the human heroes failed to stop the infection in Infected, and there is a constant back and forth between the heroes and the infected humans to save or destroy humanity. Most of the book takes place in less than a day. The plot is interesting and attention grabbing.

I’ve read two of Scott Sigler’s novels (SciFi Tech/Horror/Adventure) and liked them a lot.  Now I find several of his are available as FREE audiobooks.  Another exercise in reading.

And… it would be smart of me to include the URL: http://www.scottsigler.com/node/949

InfectedInfected by Scott Sigler

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great book! One of the best I’ve read in ages.

Starts with a strange case of infection and devolves into full blown alien invasion.

Some militarism, but very little and completely relevant to the story. I did not skip one bit of description. There were NOT page long descriptions of guns.

The action mostly takes place in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the surrounding area.
