seems like if I put things in Blockquotes like this:

that WordPress puts some awful quote graphics before it. I’m trying to find a work around. Possibly this behavior is part of the theme?

It was the theme. Just commented out the part of the style.css which loaded the quote image.
And… I appologize to the folks at Nitrogen Designs for speaking ill of their quote graphic… it’s just not what I needed.
